The portrait basic function is to describe a subject, his physical features his personality and ultimately his soul. The beauty of a portrait is tied to the emotion it can radiate. The face is not just any body element but a place functioning as an access path to the inner side of oneself, where the person is revealed in his deep intimacy. All of this is even more true in the frontal portrait, where the subject is looking at the camera, interacting and enstablishing a chemistry with the photographer first and afterwards with the final picture viewer. The subject in this case is not reduced to a simple linguistic element but he claim the right to be recognized as a unique individual. The portrait is an operation, the face is the place object of this operation, has it own landscape, is a narration, the portrait is the narration of a story.
